History

A Tale of Two Friends - Craig Martin and Joel Vanderbush grew up just south of Detroit in Carleton, Michigan and have been friends for...well let's just say a long, long time!  They attended Airport High School and it was there that they developed a passion for music and performance thanks to Drama class!  It was on stage that the Mystro began to emerge.

In 1991, Craig Martin put together his first DJ system and became the Mystro.  Due to Craig's magic on the mixer, he named his company Mystro's Magic.  He began small, playing school dances, private parties and bars and quickly gained the experience needed to begin playing wedding receptions.

In the meantime, while attending Michigan State University, Joel Vanderbush began spinning turntables in the dance clubs of East Lansing.  It took very little time before he began playing gigs for DJ companies around town at college parties, dances, corporate events, and wedding receptions.

An Evolution - Craig and Joel collaborated on shows many times over the years developing a loose partnership.  They also helped one another improve technique, equipment layouts, lighting design, and shared ideas for group interactives, skits, and crowd participation dances.  After the two of them had played hundreds of shows, they realized that interaction is key to any event and when people get involved and participate they have a much more enjoyable time.

Shake it up! - In 1999, after Joel returned from DJing for 6 months in Toronto, Canada, he and Craig decided to formalize their partnership and reorganize the company as Mystro's Entertainment, and with it came a new logo and promotional materials.  The new DJ powerhouse launched mystrosentertainment.com and a more expansive market emerged.  Leaving the State of Michigan in Craig's capable hands, Joel then launched the Indianapolis franchise of Mystro's Entertainment.  With the successful expansion, the Mystro was soon playing events throughout Michigan and Indiana.

With travel being part of the promise of DJs anytime, anywhere, the franchise began to ride in style with the purchase of the Mystro-mobiles in 2002.  These fully advertised PT Cruisers added another level of distinction for our already dynamic company.

After many years of playing shows all over Michigan and Indiana, a massive client base was established.  With a very high percentage of the Mystro's business coming from referrals, more and more of Craig and Joel's DJs were playing shows out of the home states in locations such as Illinois, Kentucky, West Virginia and an overwhelming number of shows in Ohio.  The Mystro is more than willing to load up the Mystro-mobile and hit the road.

With the Mystro's ability to conduct any type of event at practically any location with the highest level of professionalism and service, we have been honored to serve so many clients.  It is thanks to the recommendations of our thousands of outstanding clients and their guests that has allowed Mystro's Entertainment to grow.  We look forward to continuing to serve thousands more in the years to come.
